Reading the risks behind market entry

A market may appear attractive in aggregate while presenting very different risks at the level of a particular business. The research question needs to reflect the proposed activity, counterparties and operating conditions.

Define the decision
Market-entry work begins with the choice under consideration. A distribution agreement, a minority investment and a new operating subsidiary create different exposures and require different evidence.

Build a view of uncertainty
A useful assessment separates what is established from what remains uncertain. It makes clear which developments could change the decision and what information should be monitored.
